2017’s first week has been and gone, here’s this week’s finest free future music –
Noah Slee – Love Come Down
The tempo drops and the soul drips on this cover of Evelyn King’s ‘Love Come Down’. Kiwi, Noah Slee, drops an impressive neo-soul rendition of the 80’s pop classic, using layers of cut up vocals and dusty percussion. Watch out for the unexpected four to the floor breakdown at the climax of this little gem.
Promnite – Faded (21)
Promnite drops another clever flip, this time sampling 21 Savages’ vocals from a Shang collab. Taking a departure from his signature techno-tinged Trap sound, the LA based producer loops Savage’s rap into a chilled future beat. The track utilises a well crafted wavey piano sample and melodic keys, turning it into a dreamy, bumping head-nodder.
Danny Weed – Creeper (Danny Scrilla Rerub)
Another signature Freats’ gear change, this time with an essential remix of a Grime/ Dubstep instrumental classic. Released nearly 15 years ago, Danny Weed’s dub ‘Creeper’ is still in heavy rotation in bass music sets, having set standards in early 8 bar style Grime music. Danny Scrilla, well known for his future dub sounds, puts a contemporary spin on ‘Creeper’, layering sounds, vibes and adding extra dimensions in the process. The track pulses and undulates like a good dub track should, sometimes veering towards Roots Manuva inspired early 00’s British dub-hop.
Rihanna (S-Type Version)- Sex Wit Me
S-Type is back again this week refixing Rihanna’s ‘Sex Wit Me’. In a slightly different direction than his previous Luckyme hosted free download, the producer adds bigness to Ri-Ri’s sexy RnB number. S-Type-type synths and bass sweeps are here but with elements of dancehall and Cashmere Cat style progessions. ‘Sex Wit Me’ is turned into a soaring, anthemic but still melodic future R&B joint.
