Here’s a round up of the last week of 2016’s finest free future music –
S-Type – Grad
Part of the Luckyme ‘Advent Calendar 16 / 17’ compilation of free downloads, ‘Grad’ by S-Type is a typical Glasgow art party banger. Featuring the rising chords, bumping beats and sweeping basslines that have made the likes of other Luckyme stablemates Hudson Mohawke and Mike Slott world renowned. If you’re into your huge, anthemic future beats then the lesser known S-Type is still the man for you. Cop it, post email address, at luckyme.net.
Kaelin Ellis – Brighter Days
Next we have young, heavily FlyLo influenced beat producer, Kaelin Ellis, with a small, bite-sized nugget of a beat. Simple layering of crsuty pianos, strings and choppy beats is more than reminiscent of early beat scene producers, but still perfect for headphone, heading nodding beat listening sessions.
Goodnight Cody X Mr. Carmack
As part of the Team Supreme project, Goodnight Cody and Mr Carmack team up on a future Grime flip. Their beat takes cuts and chops from a variety of Grime influences and blends them into a melodic and bouncing future beat. Expect the usual high-quality production from Carmack with an esoteric edge courtesy of Cody.
vishnu – Saturnalia
A slight change from our usual rhythms but this atmospheric Drum n Bass number is worth a definite mention. Taking a minimalist approach to the genre, Aussie producer vishnu graces us with a deep dub focused DnB shuffler. The track oozes atmosphere and rhythms and could be a real wild card dropped into a future beats/bass set.
Cofresi & Flamingosis – Voodoos
We end this weeks picks with a fun Trap flip of a classic Screamin Jay Hawkins’ sample. Sampling-master Flamingosis and future bass-smith Cofresi collaborate for a feel good, dance floor friendly beat. ‘I Put a Spell On You’ drums and vocals are chopped and slewed over a booming 808 bassline and skipping snares.
